Kalpana Budha Magar, a resident of Sima Village, located in Bhume Rural Municipality of Rukum East district of Nepal is a housewife who once spent her days managing household chores, caring for her children, and assisting her family with seasonal crop farming. Before the intervention of the project, this was her daily routine. However, since the project’s initiation in the community, her life has transformed significantly.
Transitioning from a housewife to the breadwinner, Kalpana’s journey has set an inspiring example for other women in the community. Following the launch of the program, she was selected as one of the cooks for the school nutrition feeding program and received comprehensive training in the entire process. This opportunity has not only transformed her life but also allowed her to start earning from her newly acquired skills.
Additionally, Kalpana has received training in vegetable farming and tunnel agriculture, leading to unexpectedly successful results from her onion farming. In 2025 she also got support for making pig shed along with two piglets. This achievement has motivated her to continue her farming endeavors while also working at the school as a cook. “This program is a turning point for me and my family. It has opened up new opportunities and has empowered me to contribute to our household in ways I never imagined possible.”
Kalpana is now aware of the value of nutritious food for her family. During her time working as a cook at the school, she has learned how to prepare balanced meals and has developed an understanding of healthy eating habits. She now shares her knowledge with other women and mothers in the community, raising awareness about health and hygiene practices.
